Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the type of figurative language that used in the 6 song lyrics by Kanye West. Those songs is Runaway, All fall Down, Hurricane, Remote Control, come to life, and lord I need you. This study used theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Renninger (1974) in order to solve the problem above. In their theory there are 10 types of figurative language those are simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, allusion, Irony, paradox, synecdoche, metonymy, and dead metaphor. In this study found 6 out of 10 types of figurative language in the song lyrics. Those type of figurative language that found in this study is of figurative language and the total data is 11 those are 1 simile, 1 metaphor, 3 hyperbole, 3 personification, 1 irony, and 2 metonymy. Based on the data above show that personification has the most occurrence in the song lyrics which is in this study found 3 of personification and the total data is 11.
